How do you present social media results to clients?

Quick answer

Lead with the story, not the spreadsheet: open with what happened and why in plain language, show the agreed KPIs against goal, spotlight what worked with the lesson behind it, own what underperformed, and end with next month's plan. Present to a business owner's attention span, not an analyst's.

Presentation is where good work either registers or evaporates. Most clients cannot evaluate the work itself; they evaluate how clearly you explain it, which means the presentation layer is not garnish, it is the product's packaging.

Open with the narrative

Start with three sentences a busy owner can absorb: the headline result, the reason behind it, and the change it drives. Everything after that is supporting evidence. Presenters who open with a wall of charts force the client to find the story themselves, and clients who have to find the story usually find the wrong one.

Show performance against expectation

Numbers mean nothing without a comparator. Every KPI should appear against at least one of: last period, the same period last year, or the agreed target. Up, down, or flat versus what, is the entire analytical content of a client review, and it is what separates reporting from recapping.

Teach with the wins, own the misses

Walk through the two or three best posts with the specific reason each worked, because that is where the client sees judgment they are paying for. Then name what underperformed before they ask, with the adjustment you are making. Preemptive honesty about misses buys enormous credibility, and it removes the one weapon a skeptical stakeholder brings to the meeting.

Close with the plan

End on next month: priorities, tests, and anything you need from them. It reframes the meeting from judging the past to steering the future, which is a far better recurring conversation to be in.

Match the medium to the account

Small retainers get a clean written report; larger accounts deserve a short live walkthrough, monthly or quarterly. Either way the underlying document is the same report structure, so presenting well costs preparation, not reinvention.
