What should a social media report template include?

Verified and kept current by the Cloud Campaign team
Quick answer

A client-ready template needs six parts: a one-paragraph executive summary, the agreed KPIs with month-over-month trend, top-performing content with the lesson behind each, audience growth, work completed against the plan, and next month's priorities. One goal, five to seven metrics, and more interpretation than data.

A report template earns its keep by forcing interpretation. Data without narrative reads as homework the client has to grade; the template below front-loads the story and keeps the numbers in service of it.

The six sections that belong in every report

First, an executive summary of three to five sentences a business owner can read in thirty seconds: what happened, why, and what changes next. Most clients only reliably read this section, so write it last and best. Second, KPI performance: the five to seven agreed metrics with month-over-month and, ideally, year-over-year trend. Third, top content: the three best posts with one sentence each on why they worked, because this is where the client sees judgment rather than reporting. Fourth, audience: growth and any notable shifts in who is engaging. Fifth, delivery: what was published against the agreed calendar, which quietly documents that the retainer was fulfilled. Sixth, next month: priorities and anything needed from the client, which turns the report into a forward-looking touchpoint instead of a receipt.

What to leave out

Screenshots of every post, unexplained platform-native exports, and any metric you cannot act on. Length is not value; a tight four pages outperforms a fifteen-page data dump, and the difference in client comprehension shows up at renewal time.

Build it once, automate the data

The template is a design task done once per agency; the monthly data fill is what should be automated. Cloud Campaign generates client reports in one click on every plan, white-labeled on the Team and Agency plans, so the recurring monthly cost is the summary paragraph and the content lessons, the parts only the account team can write.
