Can you schedule posts to Facebook Groups?

Verified and kept current by the Cloud Campaign team
Quick answer

Not automatically. Meta deprecated the public Groups API in April 2024, which ended third-party auto-publishing to Facebook Groups across scheduling tools. Cloud Campaign publishes directly to Facebook Pages, and Group content can be scheduled with reminder notifications by email or push, so someone posts it manually at the right time.

This one changed in 2024 and a lot of published advice has not caught up. Facebook Groups used to be schedulable through third-party tools, and plenty of articles still describe that workflow. Meta deprecated the public Groups API in April 2024, removing the permissions that allowed outside tools to publish into Groups on a page admin's behalf. The capability went away industry-wide rather than at any one vendor.

What still works, and what does not

Facebook Pages are unaffected. Cloud Campaign publishes directly to Pages at the scheduled time, exactly as it does for Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, Pinterest, YouTube, Google Business Profile, and Threads. Groups are the exception: no automatic publishing, for any tool operating within Meta's current API terms. If a vendor claims live auto-publishing to Groups today, that claim is worth asking hard questions about.

The reminder workflow that fills the gap

Cloud Campaign has a reminder system for exactly this situation, the same mechanism that covers networks it deliberately does not integrate with. Group content gets built and scheduled inside the normal calendar, and at the scheduled moment the assigned person receives an email or push notification with the post ready to go. They open it, copy the caption and media, and publish into the Group. The scheduling, planning, and client approval stay automated; only the final click is manual.

Why this is workable rather than painful

Group content is usually recurring and predictable, such as weekly discussion prompts, member spotlights, and event reminders, so batching it costs little. The reminder approach keeps that content visible on the same calendar as everything else, which means it still appears in the monthly plan and the client report instead of living in someone's head. Agencies running several community clients typically cluster Group reminders into one or two daily windows so the manual step becomes a short routine rather than scattered interruptions.

Setting client expectations

Say it plainly during onboarding: Pages publish automatically, Groups need a human at the keyboard because Meta closed that door. Clients who have been told otherwise by a previous agency appreciate the accurate version, and it prevents the far worse conversation where Group content silently never posts. If a client's entire strategy depends on Group publishing, budget the manual time honestly in the retainer rather than pricing it as automated work.
